Who we are

A Legacy of Love and Compassion

Late mother Menuka Siwakoti was born in Bhutan, where she spent her early years surrounded by the serene beauty of mountains and valleys. Despite the challenges of life in Bhutan, Menuka’s determination and work ethic shone brightly as she labored tirelessly to raise her family in a remote village.

Known for her kindness and helpful nature, Menuka had an incredible ability to share her pain and struggles in a way that brought happiness and comfort to others. Her compassion and love were the bedrock of her character, endearing her to everyone who knew her.

In 1992, political turmoil forced Menuka and her family to leave their beloved homeland and seek refuge in Nepal. As a refugee, she faced many challenges, but her spirit remained unbroken. She continued to exhibit extraordinary strength and resilience, always putting her family’s needs above her own.

In 2008, Menuka and her family embarked on a new journey to the United States, seeking better opportunities and a fresh start. They settled in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, where Menuka’s warmth and generosity quickly made her a cherished member of the community.

Tragically, Menuka’s life was cut short due to heart failure, but her legacy of love and compassion lives on. In her honor, her family established the Menuka Memorial Foundation, a testament to her unwavering commitment to helping others. The foundation focuses on supporting orphans’ education, mental health training, and promoting language and arts through cultural and social events. Menuka Memorial Foundation is dedicated to uplifting the community by providing educational, cultural, and social services. Our mission is to support charitable, cultural, and educational initiatives exclusively for the benefit of underprivileged and orphaned children, in compliance with section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Through these efforts, we aim to foster a nurturing environment that empowers individuals and preserves cultural heritage, ensuring a brighter and more inclusive future for all.

Menuka’s life was a journey of immense courage, compassion, and dedication. Her memory continues to inspire and uplift those who knew her, and her legacy of kindness will forever be remembered through the Menuka Memorial Foundation.
